This beautiful, carefully renovated old stone house is situated in a small traditional agricultural town at the foot of Mount Kissavos. 15 minutes by car is the city of Larissa with ancient amphitheatre, shops, restaurants and entertainment. 30 minutes by car is the coast with many different beaches. This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature, to explore an alternative side of Greece that is authentic and far away from mass tourism - no matter the season.
The place
The garden makes this house special as it is spacious, with walnut and olive trees, hammocks, fire pit, vegetable garden and grape vines which guests are welcome to help themselves to when the vegetables and grapes are in season. The house is two storey with a large entrance hall full of books and a dedicated work space for two people. Downstairs there is a living room and a wonderful kitchen with views and access to the garden. There is a courtyard off the kitchen with an outdoor dining table under a pergola with grape vines. There is a large bedroom downstairs with a double bed and a single bed can be added on request. There is also a shower and toilet (please note there is a step up into the shower in this bathroom). Upstairs the two bedrooms are ideal for couples and in the larger of the two rooms there is a double bed as well as two singles. On the landing there is also a daybed which can be used. There is one large indoor bathroom upstairs with washing machine and access to the balcony and finally there is also one bathroom with shower (our favourite) which is outside off the courtyard - perfect for summer!
Interaction with guests
Available if needed and can help set up excursions, hikes and provide traditional breakfast and meals on request.
Neighbourhood
Sykourio has several small supermarkets nearby, as well as bakers, butchers, post office, a chemist and a health centre. There are a few cafes, there is good daytime food and tsiporo at Efi’s in Sykourio however for the evening the best tavernas are in the nearby villages of Ossa (go on foot), Spilia (drive up the mountain) or in Larissa where there are many places to choose from.
Getting around
This is a beautiful area to explore all year round and the mountain range behind Sykourio offers many trails, walks, wildlife and fauna. In autumn and winter it’s the time to gather wild mushrooms, chestnuts and late fruits before the snow comes. For the adventurous climb to the nearby peak of Mount Ossa (2000m) or go further afield to Mount Olympus (3000m) If you prefer skiing then there is the resort of Elatohori which is an hour and a half drive way. Canyoning and rafting can be arranged as well. Then in the spring and summer you can enjoy a different beach everyday, find local festivals, watch a movie under the stars - life is outdoors and the possibilities are endless. The traditional mountain villages in the area offer local food and spectacular scenery. If you want to learn more about the local history and culture visit the ruins at Dion, the amphitheatre in Larissa or see the famous monasteries of Meteora. Greece is much more than sun and islands, the mainland is rich in sights and experiences with something for everyone all year round.

Hi, I am Jill, an English designer, married to Angelo who is Greek and an architect. Together we renovated our lovely old stone house and created our very special garden - we now invite you to come and stay and to enjoy it too. As we both make and produce art you can see artistic touches everywhere, with painting and sculptures both indoors and out - and we are known for our large book collection! We love entertaining and so we have a fire pit in the garden where we spend many happy evenings with family and friends. Come and see it for yourselves and find a true home away from home!
